Can I replace a headlight myself?
Yes, you can replace a headlight bulb yourself for most vehicles. The difficulty ranges from very easy (taking just a few minutes under the hood with no tools) to more complex (requiring you to remove the bumper or access the bulb through the wheel well).
General Steps to Replace a Headlight Bulb
Turn off the vehicle: Make sure the car and the headlights are completely turned off.
Access the bulb: Open the hood and locate the back of the headlight assembly. (For some car models, you may need to go through the wheel well or remove a few screws).
Disconnect the wiring: Unplug the electrical harness from the back of the bulb by pressing the plastic locking tab.
Remove the old bulb: Twist the bulb counter-clockwise or unclip the wire bracket to pull it out.
Install the new bulb: Put the new bulb in place without touching the glass with your bare fingers (skin oils can cause the bulb to burn out early). Wear gloves or use a cloth.
Reassemble and test: Lock the bulb in, plug the harness back in, and turn on your headlights to test the new light.
